when road trippin' with dan ...

-I take self-portraits with the iPhone because I get bored. Dan rolls his eyes and says he doesn't understand why I do that. And I tell Dan it's just what bloggers do. And then he says he doesn't understand blogging.
Boys.

-I wear a sweatshirt, a coat, and a scarf in the car and beg Dan to turn the heat on. Dan wears a t-shirt and turns up the AC instead.

-Dan is usually talking up a storm on the way there about engineering and beekeeping and cooking. I am {very politely} rolling my eyes while daydreaming out the window. I am usually talking up a storm on the way back about cameras and photography and blogging while Dan is rolling his eyes. His eye rolling is never polite.

-Dan tells me "keep an eye out for wildlife!". I ask him where he put the iPad.

-I eat four meals and three snacks and drink coffee and Gatorade and lemonade in the car. Dan eats a granola bar and drinks a bottle of water.

-I ask to stop every 45 minutes so that I can pee .... and get another snack. Dan's life goal is to drive 10 hours without stopping.

-Dan tries his best to run out of gas before making it to a gas station. I prefer to fill up at half full. Half empty. This also gives me another opportunity to pee. And get a snack.

-I am {usually} pretty excited to get home and see Sherman and do laundry and get my life organized again. Dan is already planning our next vacation.

And that, my friends, is how opposites attract. ;)

  1. Are you sure Dan's real name isn't Randell? And he lives in Georgia? Because if not, I think they are related. Big time! Just wait till you road trip with a baby. We stopped about 6 times on a 6 hour trip. Fun times!

  3. You two are seriously the cutest. I have mastered the art of polite eye-rolling-- tell Dan to let me know if he needs a tip or two. :)

  12. Funny! I always tell my friends that I have a 45 minute bladder. Which will certainly make my trip to PA extra exciting tomorrow, since it's like an 8 hour drive. Hmmm. Also, I love thinking about my next vacation when I'm just back from my current one, but I also make sure that I get everything washed, unpacked and cleaned up within the first 45 minutes of returning home.

  13. I'm alwayyyys bundled up in the car! But then end up stripping because I'm sweating to death. And the pee/snack break? Yep, me dos.

  17. I always eat more on road trips than my husband does too! He also tried to convince me that we should only stop to use the restroom when the car needs gas. Not gonna happen.

  19. Dan is Paul, other than the beekeeping. I'd love that.

But really. He makes fun of me for how much I eat (not that much, but compared to his one meal a day, sure), and complains about how frequently I need to pee (I told him once I might just get pregnant so he can see how INfrequently I pee now!), and he literally had us running on fumes in the middle of Booneyville, SC, and the only gas station we saw was TWENTY CENTS A GALLON HIGHER than the small town's stations we passed back when the car was on 1/4 tank and I suggested we get gas.
Oh, and once when we drove from Idaho-Georgia and back (with the dogs, and towing a trailer both ways) he started driving from our hotel in St. Joe and once evening hit I crawled in the back to lay down with the dogs, so I'd be rested for my turn to drive. I woke up each time he got gas, but he'd say he was fine and I should go back to sleep. EIGHTEEN HOURS LATER I woke up as he was pulling into our driveway. He never stopped other than for gas. He is certifiably insane.

  20. I mean if you can't stop to pee and eat what fun is a road trip?

My husband will drive on fumes just to make to a Speedway because 1. he insists on only buying their gas and 2. because they have the best fountain diet coke (unless we pass a sonic of course). MEN.

  22. haha! I could have written this entire post, except where you write "dan" I could have plugged in Scott.

  24. So cute! I love your polite eye rolling haha. We're roadtrip opposites too. At least you're nice enough to leave Dan out of the iphone pictures...I'm never that generous :)

  25. Ammon and I have the exact same issues. I'm thinking that many of these things might be girl vs boy road trip habits.

  26. I have become very good at not drinking much or holding it on road trips. When we drive up to Angel Fire, we usually stop once maybe twice(it's about 11 hours, thanks to the radar detector)! We try to drive tank to tank. I don't mind the drive anymore, more time to make Scott talk to me :) haha

  27. This is hilarious!! :)

Especially the 'drive 10 hrs without stopping' vs the 'peeing and snacking' thing.
Decision made - I need coffeehouse with my cup of tea in the mornings ;-)
