we love our doctors

So Sherman and I both had to go to the doctor yesterday morning. At first we weren't thrilled about it. As you can see. We kind of just wanted to stay home and watch The Today Show and chew on bones. But then we remembered that we both love going to the doctor.

I know what you're thinking. Dogs hate going to the vet. Usually when we pull up to the vet's office I see some poor woman trying to yank her dog from the car. Pleading with him to please just get out of the *&$#@!^* car. Then when we reach the door, I usually see a dog trying to make a run for it. I see a dog foaming at the mouth. I see a dog hiding under his/her owner's legs.
And then there is Sherman.

To Sherman, the vet is a magical place.
It's a place where you get to see fun people.
And do fun things. Like get shots. And see cats in cages.
And apparently, the vet is an excellent place to catch up on some
much needed beauty sleep.
And then there is me.
Sherman's mom.
I love doctors too. Because usually I get a free toothbrush. Or some free floss. Or sometimes a lollipop. And let's not forget my amazing eye doctor who gives out free Starbucks. Starbucks! Forget the $279 I'll be spending on contacts. I get expensive coffee for free.

You guys don't even want to know how many cups I had while waiting for that little puffer machine that puffs air into your eyeballs (I hate that machine). I am never telling. But I will tell you that I had coffee ... and then some more coffee. And then I decided that I should probably quit drinking caffeine at noon.
So I switched to hot cocoa.

To all the doctors out there ... we love you. We do.
Especially when you give us free stuff.

  1. Our dogs have all loved the vet too. Where else can you go meet people who love you the minute you walk in the door, let you jump on them, and then give you a treat?

I hate the puffer machine too. For me, it is the suspense of waiting for it to puff!!

    Hugs,
    Kara

  2. That's so great he loves the vet so much. I wish my cat had the same feelings toward the people in white costs. Free Starbucks at the doctors!? Then maybe I'd go.

  3. HAHA. a dog that loves the vet. cracks me up.
one of my dogs is too remedial to ever know what's going on.
he just likes that he's involved. nothing else matters after that.

  4. I wish my dog liked the vet! She spazzed out on me last time! But she only weighs 3 pounds so luckily I can control her! lol Starbucks at the optometrist?!? I'm going where you go!

  5. Walter loves the vet, too! He walks right in, says hi to anyone and everyone and tries to play with all the other animals. He will give unlimited kisses while getting shots. As long as he's getting attention from people, he doesn't care. :)

  6. My lab loves the vet too. She heads straight to the back (where most dogs don't dare to go) and wants to visit all of the techs. Silly pups.

And the puffer thing is the worst. I need to interview new eye doctors, and only settle for one with a Starbucks machine.

  7. Oh you are so lucky! Dozer is fine getting out of the car, and fine in the lobby, but as soon as you try to take him into an exam room, he acts like you're trying to kill him. 90 pounds of straight up terror is not fun! And those puffer machines... can't stand them. I always think their trying to trick me, too, and the little machine with the picture is going to be the puffer and I flinch then. Optometrist hates me.

  8. I am a HUGE fan of the dentist. In England I got to go four times a year (some weird clause in our overseas insurance allowed this?) and it was GREAT. My love is just because I have genetically crappy teeth that I'd love to keep, though. I'd go to the dentist every week if I could. I've only been to the eye doctor once in the past 15 years...
As for the vet? Mine don't mind it, although Sloan likes to turn into a whining mess but only because it gets her more attention. If everyone ignores her she's fine. Max does his normal pathetic "why does everybody hate me" Eeyore routine. But he's fully cooperative, and weighs himself.

None of mine SLEEP, though. Sherm's a weirdo- but an adorable one!

  9. Oh I have missed Sherman!! I love pics of you and Dan of course, but I feel like this is Sherman's blog ... so I always get upset when I don't see him. ;)

Funny as always. You always make me laugh in the morning and this is why I'm addicted to your blog!

  12. SHUT UP! I want to go to your eye doctor... I mean the 12 hour drive might counter act the $3 cup of free coffee but stilllllll.

Also I hate the puffer machine too. WITH A PASSION.

  13. Ok you have to tell me who your Optometrist is. I'm actually looking for a new one! haha

And Sammy hates the vet, he's totally the dog that hides under my legs. He'll go in willingly, but as soon as he's inside, he's like "oh crap." He's such a baby. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I love how he, all of a sudden, becomes a momma's boy. ;)

  17. Everytime I hear about that puffer eye thingy, I think of that episode of friends and rachel with that puffer thing...makes me giggle every time. Hopefully someone out there knows what I'm refering to!

  19. Our first dog (kid), Scruffy was like that- he loved going to the vet until he got sick with AIHA and then once he had that, he hated going to the vet because it always meant he was either getting blood drawn, getting a shot, or getting a blood transfusion. :(

I miss that dog every day.

but anyway- good for Sherm- that's awesome that he loves it so much!

  20. Taylor LOVES the vet. LOVES HIM. When we had to take Cotton for all of his shots, we took Taylor too just because we knew she would love it and hoped it would rub off on Cotton. I think it worked. He doesn't seem to mind either.

  21. You like coffee too, eh? I loooove it. When I went on a 2 day yoga retreat, I abstained from caffeine and holy mother of pearl did I have me some nasty headaches. Have a coffee once the hub picked us up? GONE! Love coffee!

I love the pic of Sherm just sprawled out on the floor at the vets. It's true, rarely do you see a dog that content and relaxed at the vet's office. My boys are little sissy pants, they try and crawl up my arm while they're on the table, but they're generally pretty damn good, I can't complain. They're just supre dramatic when Mommy is involved. Like brushing them. They are both Bichons. Frou frou dogs that happen to be boys and LOOOOVE getting dirty. These boys have had baths at home all the time since they were about 10 weeks old so this is all nothing new. But the minute I start brushing, oh the HORROR. LOL They don't act like that with our groomer :P

Oh and btw, before I had Lasik eye surgery, I used to dread that air puffer thingymabob that puffs into your eyeballs. Holy uncomfortable.

    Merry Christmas sister!!!! :) xo

  23. Hey I'd take the puffer machine and starbucks! My doctor is still old school, with the drops in the eyes that make you blind for 3 hours. And no Starbucks.
Hawkeye loves the vet too, she's the same with all the attention. Doesn't mind the shots one bit, and has the most fun chewing the cotton ball and tape off her leg and shredding it into tiny pieces for mommy to clean up.

  24. Sherman is, the. best. dog. EVER. My dog not only flips out when we go to the vet...she usually pees on the floor even if we went two seconds earlier.
