simple {part one}

Hundreds upon hundreds of bloggers are pouring their heart and soul into their blog posts this week as a result of an amazing blogger conference that recently took place (Holy Influence Conference talk, *pun intended*). But unfortunately I wasn't able to attend. So what am I doing?
I'm talking about makeup.

So I told you yesterday that I went out this last weekend. Such a fun night. But getting ready for this little outing of mine was a tad bit stressful. I woke up Friday morning and spent an entire hour getting ready. A whole hour! Typically it takes me about 20 minutes to get ready each morning (and that includes a shower). But the crazy thing is, you all know that I get up at the butt crack of dawn. So what do I do for the other two hours before I have to head in to work? I hang out with my dog. Oh and eat breakfast. I really like breakfast.

So back to my point. Minus the shower, on a normal day it takes me about 10 minutes to slap on some makeup and brush back my wet hair. I really hate blow dryers. My arm always starts to hurt after 30 seconds of holding that dang thing up in the air. So I don't use a blow dryer. And I'm pretty sure my $11 straightener has seen better days. So it's a little makeup time and absolutely no hair time for this simple girl.

Some people call it boring. I call it simple.
Want to see how simple?
This is it as far as makeup goes.
If it doesn't fit in this tiny little bag ... I don't need it.
That's my rule.
I have one lip balm.
And two lip glosses.
And one tube of actual lipstick.
Which I haven't touched since my wedding day.
I use three colors of {neutral} eyeshadow.
One color of blush.
And that's that.
Plus a little concealer, some powder foundation, and a dab of mascara ...

and you've got me in a nutshell.
Or me in a little bit of makeup.

Oh and now I suppose you're wondering how many nail polishes I own.
Actually, you could probably care less.
But I took a picture of them anyways.
One, two, three, four, five.
I own five whole nail polishes; four of which, it seems, are the exact same color.

Tomorrow I'll be displaying my amazing jewelry collection.
And by amazing, I mean itty bitty teeny weeny.

So, would you consider yourself to be simple in this department? Or are you a crazy makeup/nail polish hoarder? I actually want to try being a hoarder sometime. You know, just for fun.

  1. Ok I'm officially obsessed with that makeup bag!! Where is it from?

  2. Love your makeup bag AND how organized it is! I am not a big makeup girl myself, but I am big on hair products/tools. Don't know why that is since I'm TERRIBLE at doing my own hair.

I do, however, seem to have an obsession with nail polish...I'd say I have at least 10 Essie bottles in my possession :)

  3. i agree... that makeup bag is amazing! i bet i have a similarly-sized stock of makeup, but it gets thrown into a much larger bag! (we travel a lot though, so on travel weekends i toss in my travel-sized stuff too, so it's ok)

as far as nail polish though!? my stock is about triple in size, with probably 10 times as many tools. i've got it made in the shade in that department. my boyfriend does my nails... he was a professional for a few (or 10) years before working at investment company in manhattan, so doing my nails every now and then (or every week) keeps up his skills if he ever has to fall back on that job :)

    cheers!

  4. I have a little bit more makeup than that, but I don't wear most of it! Heck I'm lucky if I wear more than a tinted moisturizer and some chapstick most days! My nail polish collection is pretty sparse though. I think I have 4 or 5 bottles, 2 of which someone bought for me. I just don't paint my nails often, and when my toes are done it's usually at a nail place where they have 100s of colors to choose from!

  5. makeup wise- simple as can be (and i use MK too!!) my hair on the other hand, if i just let it go wet- it woudlnt be pretty. i usually let it air dry at night and then run a straightener or curling iron through it in the am.. all in all about a 10 min segment(not too bad)my morning routine takes about 30 min. i love your simplicity tho!

  6. I would consider myself extremely simple in this department. Im actually impressed with your make up bag and brushes. I have a few things that sit in my medicine cabinet. If I knew the proper way to put make up on maybe I'd have more. I do love neutral eye shadows though!

  7. Adorable! I used to use Mary Kay make up all the time, they have so many pretty things!!

  8. I like simple! I have lots of make-up compared to you. I didn't think I had much. You are so durn pretty!

  9. I love that makeup bag, is it all MaryKay? I have gobs of crappy, old makeup that NEVER gets touched. I basically wear the same, basic makeup every day... I'm pretty plain in that department too. Also, not sure if I own lipstick-- I'm thinking no ;)

You have inspired me to clean out the nasty huge makeup bag I have though and only keep the stuff I actually use/like!

  10. Very minimal over here when it comes to make up and hair. Not like I haven't tried but even the natural, organic makeup causes my eyes to tear so the only thing I use these days is lip balm or lipstick. It only takes me 20 mins to get ready too but I get up early to make a good breakfast and hang with my dog as well.

  11. i want to do this!
i love simple. it's the best!!
mary kay is also super amazing (and a little expensive)
my sister in law sells it - otherwise, i wouldn't own any.
i heard about the conference. sounds like it was fun!
    but i'll stick to simple.

  12. I like simple. I can put on my makeup in 7 minutes flat. I currently own one bottle of nail polish...and it's clear. Does that say anything about me? Plain and simple. I'm gonna have to get wild and crazy...and buy some nail polish.

  13. I saw that pic of the nail polishes and were like "aren't most of them the same colour?" and then you confirmed that they were, I'm glad my eyes aren't playing tricks on me. I don't really do my make up that often, I would generally prefer the extra time in bed, i'd say maybe a maximum of 3 times a week unless i have something special on and my hair can be done in minutes as its pretty poker straight. I do like colour on my nails though, however I can wear the same colour for a week as I like the slightly chipped look.
Despite how little I wear make up I do own quite a bit, way more than I use, maybe I should have a clear out.

  14. I love the makeup bag! I'm a little bit of a makeup hoarder, but I can still be out the door in under ten minutes :)

  15. I'm simple in the sense of the colors I use. But I have quite the collection. Not large by any means, but I have more than one of each almost. haha

  16. Cute!

  17. I love how organized your makeup bag is...mary kay rocks!!

  18. I too love your makeup bag! I'm pretty simple as well, when it comes to make up. Foundation, blush, mascara. That's usually how it goes. Hair though, drying and straightening is at least twenty minutes. I so wish I had naturally straight hair.
When it comes to nail polish, I probably have about 10-15 of them, but only use a couple. Guess that means I should get rid of some right? But you just never know when you might want to paint your nails blue! (Once. . .I think. . .probably just testing the color) *Sigh*

  19. I dont think you like Mary Kay at all. And I really want that makeup bag. My make up ritual is less than yours actually. Every once in awhile i'll throw on some eye makeup but hardly ever foundation. In fact, I don't think i've worn foundation since Fletch was born.... oops?

  20. Simple is the word that is typically used around my house. What's your style? -Simple, clean. Love it!

  21. I'm a hoarder when it comes to makeup and nail polish. I like to change up my nail polish so I actually use all of them but when it comes to makeup, I tend to use the same ones every day so I don't know why I even keep the rest around! I love your simple makeup style and your 10-20 minutes of getting ready makes you pretty already so why would you spend more time if you don't need to? :)

  22. I love mary kay they have great products!!!

  23. Your skin probably loves you for not slathering it in a ton of junk. Besides, you're way too pretty to wear a ton of makeup :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nah, I'm like you. Except you look better than me with less makeup. In the past if I've tried to venture out and try something new - I just end up spending 12 dollars on something that sits at the bottom of my closet (I use the linen closet for toiletry storage right now) - so I don't try it anymore. But I DO get attached to buying the same makeup products that I know I won't waste my money on and then have a major panic attack when they're discontinued. :)

  25. I like simple. I often find myself wishing I was more simplified than what I am.

Simple is easy, but sometimes the world of beauty and makeup can make you forget that. Thanks for your simple reminders (pun intended).

    Happy Wednesday! :)

  26. That makeup bag is adorable! I love the simplicity of it- I should streamline my collection because, for example, I have nine sticks of eyeliner.. and I wear eyeliner maybe once or twice.. a year.

And I am SO with you on the blow-drying nonsense- I literally haven't dried my hair since before the summer. I probably won't again until the winter when the morning chill will cause me to immediately contract pneumonia as soon as I step outside.

  27. I have two nail polishes and less makeup than that! Glad I'm not alone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think my makeup routine could fit in that bag! I like simple. I do have a box of nail polish, but I think I've only actually bought myself five of them. And I own one, unused tube of lipstick only because I used to sell Mary Kay and it just happened to be left over when I quit. Simple is the new beautiful, right?!

  29. I guess I am somewhere in the middle. I have more makeup/nail polish than you, but honestly, I probably always use the same few things, so more if pointless for me. I also do a bad thing - I keep my makeup forever. I may, in fact, have a blush that is 10 years old.

If my cheek falls off, you'll know why. :-)

  30. Your makeup is simple because you are gorgeous. Simple is best, in my humble opinion.

  31. I have that bag for my brushes and love it. Make up on the other hand, I've gotten a little crazy lately. I just can't pass up those e.l.f deals. I mean, $1 for makeup?! I am the exact same with nail polish.

  32. We are the same person--seriously!

  33. Hi there! I just counted and I have 24 bottles of nail polish, and 18 of them are red. So I feel ya. :) I hope you have a wonderful day!

  35. Can we be best friends?? Because I'm pretty sure we're meant to be. Plus both our birthdays are in December, sooo.... :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. My make up bag is very similar, except I dont even have fancy stuff, just drug store brands. I do love nail polish though :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I also have hardly any makeup. Seriously, most days? Foundation, mascara and lip balm. HA!

Theatre makeup though, is kind of a different story. It lives in a giant box by itself because my stash is rather large. :P

  38. You are just a beaut!!!!!!!

  39. I almost never wear makeup during the work week and a lot of times I'm low maintenance when it comes to makeup. However, I am a total makeup hoarder. I'm obsessed and I can't stop buying it. Ok, I can...but I don't want to.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You are gorgeous with or without make-up girl...simple is best. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm crazy simple when it comes to makeup. Concealer, powder, eyeshadow, mascara, ChapStick. That's it. A picture of my nail polish collection? That would be an empty counter. I don't own any nail polish. I'm a disgrace to womanhood.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You're a natural beauty. Me on the other hand....... I need the foundation!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. You certainly are a natural beauty, and don't require much to look gaw-geous in the mornings (still super jealous that you are a morning person). I don't wear much make up either, but it is out of sheer ignorance and laziness! I have a little make-up bag, and subscribe by the if it doesn't fit, it isn't needed philosophy as well. My basics are concealer + bronzer + blush + mascara + chapstick. I used to work in a department store (that makes it sounds muuuuuch fancier that it actually was) that sold cosmetics... and I got the old products that were replaced with a new "formula" came out... so I do have a larger case full of "fancy" make up that I have no clue how to use (eyeshadow confounds me!), but it has come in handy for a few Halloween costumes! haha

I have recently become OB-sessed with Essie nail polishes. I try to pick up a new one every couple of months, and so far have about 5 fun shades.
    xx

  44. Less is definitely more! I need to simplify my makeup routine, I spend way too much time getting ready and have WAY too many products. Love that eyeshadow pallet too!
