our digs: where we eat

{In case you are new here, or if you just happened to miss this post ... I can promise you that I do not post pictures of our house every single day. Just every day for two weeks while I get through some very long days at work. Bear with me. I know you guys miss Sherman. ;) }

So right off the living room is the dining room.
I love this room. I love to eat. And this is where the majority of our eating takes place. And I don't like to cook, so the dining room is my kind of place.

BEFORE ...

DURING ...

AFTER ...
My in-laws gave us this decorative plate from Cozumel, Mexico (where we got married). See that little bride with the super long vail? That's me. Actually it's not. I didn't even wear a vail. And I'm pretty sure that bride is Hispanic. But it's still awesome.
Chicago Skyline ... a gift from my sister and brother-in-law (and Jack).
Those lucky ducks live in this amazing city.
So there you have it. The dining room complete with a miniature bar. Just keeping it real. However, we do not drink rum. Yuck. I'm not even sure why we have that. If you like rum, come on down (or up, or over) to Kansas City and I'll make you a drink. I don't even know what you do with rum, but we'll figure it out. Together.

 What we did:
  • Knocked out {part of} wall between dining room and kitchen. And I should emphasize that this was a "load-bearing" wall. For those of you who watch HGTV ... you can imagine how fun it was to watch this process ... waiting for the entire house to collapse in .52 seconds.
  • Replaced window
  • Replaced all electrical outlets
  • Painted trim
  • Painted walls red
  • And that was enough. Have you tried to paint walls red before? Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. And 24 coats later ... we have red walls.

  9. I love it!! So cozy, but also incorporates elements of your life. It also never hurts to have a bar in the corner... in fact I think there should be a bar in the corner of every room.

  24. I love your city-scape scene. :) So y'all eat together at the dining room table every night? My hubby and I really need to get better about this and stop eating in front of the t.v.

  25. Yes, I have tried painting walls red before...you just reminded me. You're absolutely right, it's a very difficult color.

Oh, it's just so lovely and serene. You must have heard that red is supposed to be the color that makes people feel hungry and social? It's supposed to be a great color for the dining room, but you're not supposed to put it in your kitchen, lest you pig out! :)

  26. I love that you knocked out the wall! So much more open! xoxo

  36. my mom once painted out cabinets in our kitchen red, and it looked really good, but boy did it take a while, especially since they were darker to begin with. the beauty in paint, is that we can always redo it.

anyways, you're dining room looks so great! congrats on getting it done!!

  39. So you can sit in your dining room and dream about Chicago the entire time you're eating... The weird thing is I have a photo of KC in my dining room! Jk I don't. But that would be weird.

  40. It looks great! Plus red is supposed to make you hungry or something. It's why so many restaurants are painted red.
Also, seriously. Is Dan a contractor? Because he needs to be. Ridiculous skills.

  41. Red walls. Shoot me now. We painted our bedroom red and after major pink colored primer and a bazillion coats, we had red walls.

And then six months later we painted them a different color. Go figure.

  42. I totally admire you guys and your house improvement projects! My hubby and I just don't have what it takes (and trust me..we tried...disaster!)
