our digs: we bought a house

Hello and welcome to our humble little abode. And by abode, I mean home. And by humble ... I mean humble. We bought our 1951 ranch style home back in August 2007. Dan wanted a "fixer-upper" and a fixer-upper he got. It is truly a work in progress. We've done a lot in the past five years, but are far from finished. Projects are currently going on and lists for future projects keep growing. It's not a mansion. It's not a dream home. But it's our home. And I never want to forget what a great little home it has been.

So without further ado ...

BEFORE ...

DURING ...
Building a shed with the nephew.

AFTER ...
The finished little shed in our backyard.

More about the DIY barnwood potting table HERE.
I adore our street. Especially the trees.
Oh hey Sherman.

Don't forget to come back tomorrow guys ...
we might even let you inside.
But that's completely up to Sherm.

What we did:
  • Replaced garage door
  • Replaced all exterior doors
  • New windows throughout house
  • Painted front door/shutters black
  • Trimmed trees and planted new grass
  • Removed all crappy shrubs and strange brick flower planter
  • Replaced crappy plants with beautiful plants (all perennials)
  • New outside lights
  • New cute mailbox
  • Built a little mini-me shed to go along with our little house

  5. I love all the outside shrubbery! I'm hoping we'll get to doing something like that for the outside of ours (also a early 1900s ranch-style!). We already have a tiny little shed in the back, but D wants to buy ANOTHER to cramp my style in the back yard. I love yours! It's only been about a year and a half for us, but all we've accomplished is a ceiling fan & chicken coop. I've got my eye on a screened in porch (that'll likely never happen...)

  8. What an amazing job! I love the shed- I'd make it into a clubhouse JUST FOR GIRLS (oh, well, Sherman and Max could come, too... we won't address why they might be welcome *snip, snip*). The hydrangeas are great, too! My mom has several behind her house, and I used to love playing under them (they were huge, but gorgeous). Exciting series!!

  69. your house is lovely! hubby wanted a fixer upper too- but shit, ours basically should have been torn down then built back. here are things we didn't have: a guest bathroom (at all- it was just gutted), level grounds (so our house would flood in rain), windows/doors that work (and by that i mean close...), AC units (oh hello 110+ degrees..hello sauna of a house...), level flooring.. i'm just going to stop... because our house was WAY too much of an undertaking...

next time, maybe YOUR husband can talk some sense into MY husband, yes? thanks (:

oh, and i LOVE your street, too- it's exactly the kind of place i want for our next house...
