meet puddle jumpers

Sherman meets another Sherman.
Same strange reddish/orangish coloring and everything.
They fell madly in love in 0.25 seconds.
And I fell madly in love with Mr. Jumbo Corn Dog.
And all of his deep fried friends.
Deep fried twinkies people. Twinkies!
Readers ... meet Puddle Jumpers.
Puddle Jumpers ... meet readers.

Oh my gosh, this fair cracks me up every time I go.
I'm pretty sure this is the eighth time I've been to "PJ days" in Odessa, MO (there's that exciting link again). I've been going ever since Dan and I started dating. Eight years.

I honestly have no freaking clue why they call it Puddle Jumpers (I could find out, but I'm too tired to do the research online and too lazy to ask Dan).
It's always in August.
It's always 124 degrees outside (although this year it was 87. Go figure).
And there is never a single puddle in sight. Not a one.
But, puddles or no puddles ... there was fried food.
And fried food makes me happy.
The End.

P.S. (I guess it's not the end after all) ... there was a carnival. And there were rides. And there was family. And there were friends. But, after I got that jumbo corn dog, I seriously forgot to take pictures. My camera was thrown inside while I bonded with my corn dog ... and then my beef sticks, and then some o'henry bars that seriously melted in my mouth. Long story short, my stomach got a good stretching after this little weekend adventure. Now to try to teach it that eating three chocolate covered granola bars in the morning is just not ok.
We will begin that lesson tomorrow.

  2. My favorite part about fairs is the fair food. Actually I think its the only reason I go. I smiled reading about Sherman's new BF. Too cute.

  3. Fair food is theeeeeeee best.

Confession: I've never had a corn dog. Who am I?

  4. I'm doing my best to boycott the fair this year, on account of my backside being double the size it was 2 years ago. However, your corndogs make this absolutely the most difficult thing to do. Sooooooooo yummy looking. Worth paying the exorbitant prices just to have some deep fried goodness on a stick.

  15. I love foot long corn dogs. My grandparents have a flea market by them and the corn dogs are the reason we go EVERY single time. Forget the goods, its all about the dogs.

  16. I've tried to describe American carnival food to British friends, and they just don't get it. So now I just tell them that the next time they're in Orlando (they seem to love to holiday in Florida, since it's warm, cheap, and there's entertainment for the kids), they need to look for a carnival. There is nothing like carnival food. Nothing.

  26. soooooooooooo...i was thinking....which is always a little dangerous, that maybe it's called puddle jumpers because fried corn dogs makes puddles in peoples panties, then they jump of course.

    it's just a thought.

i love corn dogs. i'd eat them even if they made me a puddle jumper.

  30. Here, fair = fall.
    I wish it was fall.
I do not like 124 degrees (or 87)
    Nothing beats fair food.
Except of course having to work it off.
    Looks like fun :)

  31. Oh my good grief. I can hardly tear my eyes off of your corn dogs. I WANT!!

And I blame it all on the pregnancy. Don't ask me what I'll blame it on once the baby is born....

  32. Did Sherman lose part of his front left leg? Picture 8 would lead me to believe this. And if so, I love disabled pups even more than able pups. Go Sherman!

  33. It's kind of annoying how cute you always are. Even when you're eating a corn dog. Even when you're puddle jumping with no puddles or jumping. Even when it's 124 degrees outside (or 87).

  34. You had me at deep fried twinkie because Twinkies and deep frying should always be paired together, or at least at fairs in MO ;)

  41. If you ever come across fried Snickers, don't even hesitate. It's the most amazing thing you will ever eat! We go to the fair every summer just for the Snickers. We tried a fried Klondike this year too. It was pretty darn good :)
