call us crazy ... or maybe just cheap

So, I'm kind of obsessed with old barnwood.
Mainly because it's free. Free!
But also because it's rustic. And awesome.

Husband and I have an older house. Ok, we have an old house. I told you just how old a long time ago in a post that I wrote here. With an old house comes an old basement. And with an old basement comes an old yucky bathroom.
So, we decided to fix up this old yucky bathroom. I showed you that here.
But what to do with the outside walls of the bathroom was a big mystery.
Well, why not put up some old, free barnwood?
So that is what we did.
Ok, ok ... that's what husband did. Geez.
I don't know why we have to be so honest on blogs.

Anyways, the point of my story is that old barnwood is awesome.
And free.
And I'm over here today talking about another way you can use old barnwood.
In case you missed the barnwood potting table that Dan recently put together, go check it out. And don't stop there. Check out the entire blog.
This blog is amazing.

And speaking of amazing blogs, if you haven't checked out my 42 friends over there to the right ... you should. I read these blogs daily. 42. I mean really, who wants to work anyways? And I'll show you some more amazing blogs come July. Man oh man are you gonna love me. I mean them. Them.

There are a lot of "here"s in this post, huh?
Three to be exact.
Four if you count the "here" that I just wrote.
Crap, Five.

Guys, it's 5:30am.
I'm baaaaaack.
How long do you give me until I get sick again?

  1. I love that idea! Your bathroom walls look great! Old barnwood looks awesomely rustic and people pay a lot of money for it in some cases! Don't get sick again!

  3. The bathroom looks great! Although, I have to say that I probably don't have as much appreciation for barnwood as I should since I live with a monstrous 120 year old barn that's falling down as we speak. Free barnwood anyone? My whole family just wants to be rid of the menace to everyone's safety...the fire department might be burning it down this summer :( Because we can't afford to have it professionally taken down and we can't do it ourselves because it's too dangerous.

  11. I'm just worried that "free" old barn wood won't be so free by the time I get around to finding some- I think Pinterest has put quite a market value on it, much like old pallets!! Love the bathroom; it looks fantastic!

  17. Dan did a great job putting up the barnwood! I wish we could find a place around here that was giving it away, not just selling it for tons of money. Then I'd have barnwood everything in our house. Oh well.

Glad you're back to the normal level of Tiff-ness.

  18. Love! We did a whole wall in our basement with barn wood. Now we're doing a coffee table with it. Did you actually have to pull it off of a barn? We did. It was fun though. Hopping on over to see your other ideas!!

  25. We had a section of our wooden fence fall down and I was relieved when the garbage wouldn't take it unless it was cut in half. It is just so cool looking. I don't know what to do with it though. Neither of us are handy at all. Maybe a headboard? We don't have one.

  49. Oh, it's great. Truthfully, I would have thought that GRAY colored wood would have looked just shabby and not shabby chic. I am really surprised to see it looks so lovely against the whiteness of the bathroom. But, where are you getting this FREE wood? I'm not sure I can find FREE wood where I am?
