so maybe I'm not that country after all

When I was younger, I could not watch The Lion King without crying.

My stomach still hurts every time I hear that dang Circle of Life song. I know, it hasn’t been played since 1994, but still.

I hate the circle of life.

And so I really hate when husband tells me that “it’s just natural” and “that’s just life” when Sherman tries to play with (i.e., eat) baby bunnies. Excuse me? What the heck is “natural” about that? Sherman eats dog food. Sherman eats chocolate chip cookies. He does NOT eat baby bunnies. Period.

So, this was our argument discussion last night when Sherman tried yet again to play with his new found friends.
But, as crazy as husband thinks I am, he was nice enough to build a little home for the bunnies.
To you, husband ... thank you for humoring me.

To you, momma bunny … you suck.
Quit putting your babies in our backyard. Are you seriously dumb enough not to see the 95lb lab sniffing around? Does the smell of dog crap all over our yard mean nothing to you?
And to you, Sherman ...
if you so much as breathe on those baby bunnies, I will start continue calling you a murderer. AND I will take your cookies away from you.

And that's how I feel about that.

  1. For some reason, the bunnies have always live under the deck at my parents' house. They too, have big dogs like labs and retrievers who like to chase little furry creatures. I used to name the bunnies. Until I saw a fox make off with one. Not so fun to name bunnies after that. Bunny parents need to get some common sense.

  2. I used to watch the Lion King and hope that the father wasn't going to killed. Every time. Never changed ;)

I hit a bunny before when I was driving. Am I a murderer too? Please don't take away my cookies.

  3. I cry every time I watch The Lion King. That movie gets me. Deep in my soul.

I saw a bunny die and I didn't help it even though it looked like it could still be helped. Am I a half murderer? Please take my cookies away. I'm trying to diet.

  4. Baby bunnies are the cutest. You will have to ask Adam about his baby bunny story. Actually don't, you will cry. I cried, and I'm pretty sure Adam did too even though he tries to act like he hates all animals. Insert one millionth plea for a dog here....

  6. Tiff...your husband is one of the most honoring guys around...at least when it comes to bunnies. He deserves a soda pop.

  8. no way in heck-ity would i let a dog eat a baby bunny.

it's a friggin' baby bunny-how much cuter can this world get? watching it get eaten would be the cutest murder ever. there is something about that that is JUST not right.

  9. This is too sweet!! You husband is amazing for doing that. I have 5 dogs that chase EVERYTHING that moves in our yard, so I know it is tough & I dont understand why these mama's keep having their babies around things that eat them.

    Happy Thursday

  10. You know how everyone has a fear? Clowns, spiders, etc. Well mine is Rabbits. So at my desk in Covington, GA i'm yelling "Go Sherman Go!" ;)

  11. OMG.... did you just read what "Twiggers" wrote? "The cutest murder ever" that is sick.

Tiff, I killed a bunny once, with my car. I got home, went into my moms room, I was hysterical.. she started laughing, like hard and said, "that bunny is in bunny heaven now shay.." yeah.. there better not be effing bunnies in heaven.

  12. I love that Dan built a bunny home.

I've totally been calling Bailey a murderer since his bunny incident.

  13. aw poor bunnies! that would break my heart too! it's sweet that Dan built them a fence.

  14. I am also a crier when it comes to Lion King. Poor, poor bunnies...you are so hilarious talking about it, though!!

  16. Sad, but kinda funny story... I was in the car with my dad, uncle and cousins when we were younger and all of the sudden we felt this big bump. My uncle got out to check it out and came back and told us that we had ran over a bunny. For some reason my cousin asked what color it was and her dad said, "Well, it's red now".

  17. Oh I would be mad if bunnies were eaten up. For that matter if any creature. But your dog is so cute.

  18. My sweet precious Lana does the same. It makes me sad that she doesn't love baby bunnies or birds. She doesn't understand why I dont know that that is what retrievers do!

  19. Awww, good luck! My dog once cornered a rabbit on a bridal path, and it was terrified on its back under him- and he promptly licked it, then stepped back and waited for the chase "game" to begin again. I held him and let the poor thing go on with its day! Hopefully Sherman can become a lover, too!
*disclaimer- we've nicknamed Max "Lennie" from Of Mice and Men, since we're both afraid that one day his size and strength will overcome his heart and friendliness...

  20. Oh my gosh, first of all.. I share you hate for the Lion King, but my daughter has somewhat enjoyed it.. She's 2 she doesn't fully understand yet. And secondly, your hubby is fantab to do that!!

  21. Ooh, I'd have a hard time with that situation too. I absolutely can't stand thinking about the "circle of life" and things that happen in nature. I'm way too empathetic toward furry creatures to handle that. I hope your bunny solution is effective!

  22. Oh gosh! Sometimes nature is so brutal and unfair. It should be a rule: if its cute and furry- it does NOT get eaten.

  23. oh my gosh, this is so funny and sad and i dont like thinking about it haha. And lion king haunts me...and bambi, disney is supposed to be happy!

  24. your blog is to die for. so is your cute little family (+dog) love!

  25. Oh no!!! Chloe did the same thing to a squirrel, although squirrels aren't as cute as bunnies! And luckily, the hubs was the one to find her "catch", not me. Yikes.

  26. Ah, oh my gosh, I would die if my dog did that...I would probably bury the bunny! But good for you to build up a fence to protect the baby bunnies! I love how you call him a murderer, it made me crack up!! This post was seriously funny!

  27. aw!! i hope he learns! i love baby bunnies and i think i would die of heartbreak if my dog ate a baby bunny...

  28. I would cry if my dog ever ate a baby bunny! I am such a sap about stuff like that. I used to chase one of my cats around outside whenever she would try and attack a chipmunk.

  29. Harlow tries to eat pigeons here in Chicago... which is both disgusting and somewhat humorous. I feel bad for the poor guy that these are the only birds he gets the chance to "point at" but I would NEVER let him eat a baby bunny either. I feel like Id think of him differently?!

  30. I tear up at the song "Circle of Life" too. What is it with that song? I love that your husband built a home for the bunnies...simply adorable. ;)

  31. Um, I STILL cry when I watch Lion King. I totally bought it when it came out of the vault (we own most of the disney movies... my husband is one BIG kid) and haven't opened it because I don't want to cry.

  33. First of all, I totally cried watching Lion King, and probably still would if I tried watching it now. Second of all, I'd be so freaked out if my dog tried eating any little furry animal. And finally, in case I haven't told you lately.... you have the best sense of humor. xo

  35. Poor bunnies :(
My daughter had a pet bunny once and somehow the dog got in the cage and broke it's neck playing with it. Broke my heart. Stupid dog!

  36. our dog likes to hunt things too and last summer it started getting out of control and she had killed a handful of animals in a week. my husband thought it was great and would take pictures of the dead animals and post them on facebook. let's just say i was not in agreement. i love your blog and am officially following now! : ) have a great weekend!

  37. Oh Sherman I hope you don't become a murderer. We have soooo many bunnies. I think Dexter Morgan could live up to his serial killer name one of these days with those damn bunnies.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh Sherman....shame on you! So this is yet another thing that makes us best friends (hopefully you knew that already, though). When I was younger, I had a slight bunny obsession and my parents bought me one who I named, "Bunny." I was super creative as a child. Anyway, our dog ended up sharing my obsession and played with it, well, until it died. Broke my little heart! The circle of life really does suck!! :/
