pearly whites

woofsphoto
I brush Sherman’s teeth. Can you tell?
I think I need to stop. Or at least cut down a bit.
My dog’s teeth are whiter than mine.

Plus everyone thinks I’m crazy.
I think we’ll do it once a week instead of almost every night.
See, now you think I’m crazy too.

P.S. I'm over HERE today talking about me being a crazy dog mom.
Huh?
I have absolutely no idea where people come up with this stuff.

  1. Now I feel like a bad fur mama. I don't brush Izabella's teeth. She must hate me.

  2. I don't brush my dogs teeth but her teeth are SO SO white anyway (they're still whiter than mine) it's probably to do with her age - she's only just over a year - but I'm always so surprised how amazingly white they are! I don't think she'd ever let me brush her teeth, though!

  3. Haha I don't think I could get Toby to sit still long enough for me to brush his teeth but I wish I could! I just give him lots of dental chews- haha!

  4. Hahaha we have more in common that I thought... I dont cook either, Im learning how to sew and I treat my 2 golden retrievers like kids!!!

  5. Aw he's so cute! I should do this, but I don't think my dogs would allow it haha

  6. How cute! Believe me, I completely understand. When we first got our dog his breath was g-r-o-s-s, so we got a little doggie toothbrush that you put on your finger and have been using it all the time. Yes, on our finger. Our dogs are lucky they have such good moms, right?!

  12. This is great! I've always brushed my dogs' teeth :) Supposedly it could prevent expensive/risky dental procedures down the road! Love your new hair, btw!

  15. Charis and Jessie have weekly grooming done on a Saturday evening....I call them puppy spa treatments. I brush their teeth, clean their ears (which is how I picked up the infection) I so give them a bit of a pat down with a wet cloth in winter and then they have their favorite......I brush them from head to toe!!! So no you are not crazy.....

  25. Keep doing it. Dental health in dogs can lead to many other health problems.

"How is the rest of the body affected by bad teeth?
Infected gums and teeth aren't just a problem in the mouth -- the heart, kidneys, intestinal tract, and joints may also be infected. The tartar and any infected areas of the mouth contain a multitude of bacteria than can 'seed' to other parts of the body"- www.vetmedicine.com

  26. Look at those pearly whites! I think I can one-up you on the dog mom craziness: one of my very best friends is a dental hygienist (for humans, keep in mind), and actually scaled and cleaned Layla's teeth. It was a momentous day. But I'm with you... gotta keep those chompers healthy!

  28. That is too funny! I don't think Snoopy's had his teeth brushed more than a few times.. now you're making him a bit self conscious! xo

  29. We brush our dogs' teeth every night- Max even looks forward to it and opens his mouth for me! We started because, while Sloan has amazing tennis-ball polished teeth (actually she's got premature wear from her addiction...), Max has genetically crap teeth. Since he also has genetically crap joints and has had several surgeries and more x-ray sedation than I care to add up, we wanted to prevent any anesthesia we could- i.e., dentals if we could brush instead. He had a dental, six months later his teeth were bad again, the vet (also my boss) fussed at me (because I knew better) and we started brushing- every. single. night. 4 years later... he's still only got minimal plaque and we can continue putting off the anesthesia. So don't be embarrassed- if Sherman lets you brush them, keep it up! Periodontal disease causes a lot of problems for pets, not the least of which can be heart/circulatory issues- so keep brushing! (Just be sure to use pet toothpaste. My two are nuts for poultry... weirdos.)
Also, your hair looks great! (yesterday's post...)

  33. I have never brushed my dog's teeth, so I'm a bad dog mom. But...I do walk here and get her tail and ears dyed a different color for the "cutesy" bichon freaky dog mom look :)

  34. I wish I could brush my dog's teeth on my own...doesn't work very well. We have to go the Petsmart route...which we did today! Just LOVE when his breath smells like doggie-chicken-toothpaste... pee-yew. Lol!

  35. It's good to brush their teeth daily or every other day. My dogs HATE it when I brush their teeth, so I'm a bad dog mom and just let it go. I really need to work on that though, because dental work is not cheap!

  37. What a cutie pup!!! My dog has wicked white teeth and his breath never stinks--people always ask us what we do to them. We do nothing! The vet said it's good genes.

  38. You're too funny! I brush my puppy's teeth all the time too. I live in fear of her kissing someone and them saying she has bad breath. I have a WHOLE nighttime routine with my little bugger.

  40. Sorry it took me so long to comment on your blog. I had to scroll through, oh, a BAZILLION comments to get down here. Then I was tired, so I went and got a cup of coffee. And since I am so good at not procrastinating I also did some laundry, And checked my email. And was being so productive when I remembered what I was supposed to be doing the entire time. You know, commenting here.

Anyway, I'm here and I just wanted to say A. I love Sherms. B. Short hair? You're so sassy. C. I haven't talked to you in 8 million years. Let's fix it. Ok?!

  41. First of all, 40 comments?? Girl you've hit the big time!! And second of all, Bronx would punch me in the face if I tried to brush his teeth every night. We try to do it a few times a month but he gets mad. Brushing his hair on the other hand....my puppy is a diva (is there a male version of this word??) when it comes to having his hair brushed.

  42. awwww he is a cutie. I had black labs growing up. My mom has two now. If I had more space i'd love to have another. I think Westley needs a playmate.

  45. Haha. It's good that you brush his teeth! One of our cats had to have a tooth pulled because her previous owners didn't take care of her mouth. Plus her breath always smelled like fish. Gross. You're a great pet mama.

  47. So I'm lazy and don't want to make two comments. That means you get two comments for the price of one. Ya know... if you had to pay for them. Anyway! Your hair! Your flipping hair looks awesome! Feels good to chop it off every once in awhile. I had a pixie cut for a year. Amazing. Oh and the pup. You may be crazy but I'm right there with you. My dogs are kids and don't tell me different.
