sherman the scavenger

Currently our backyard looks like we have seven kids.

We have crap everywhere.
Kick balls, tennis balls, frisbees, empty water bottles, a baby pool, an old rope and ...
an empty orange juice container.

Sherman goes on a walk every day. Twice a day.
It never fails; he finds trash on each and every one of his walks and carries it home proudly.

Whether we have two minutes or two miles left, he will keep his prized treasure in his mouth until he reaches our backyard, where he then deposits it amongst his other trashable items.

Usually it’s plastic water bottles.
And then there was that one time he found a bottle of whiskey.
Yesterday it was an empty half gallon orange juice container.
And today?
Today you ask?
A water bottle and an old ratty glove.
Double whammy.

Oh Sherman.
You are such a nut.

  3. Wait, I really love him and think you should just keep a running total on the side of your blog of Sherman's treasures. Also, I really love him. Did I say that already? I do.

  8. I get the feeling that Twink and Sherman would be best friends. Sherman would act as a body guard and Twink would chase him around the backyard.

  12. HAHAH too precious, dogs are so funny. My little dachshund LOVES socks, he will find any sock he can and carries it around for hours and will fight off any other dog who tries to come within 10 feet of that beloved sock :P

  13. i love this post totally reminds me of my dogs and all the crazy dog things they do. i wish they would tell us why they did the things they do but we will just have to keep guessing.

  14. Your dog is just trying to beat litter, one piece at a time. Next step is to get him to deposit it in an actual trash can. I don't know how you would make that happen, but I'm sure the dog whisperer must have some pearl of wisdom about it.

  26. Your dog is adorable!!I have a black lab and he loves to do the same thing. Except he also has a tendency to sniff out anything and everything that is "edible" and scarf it down. Then he remembers where he found it and the next time we walk by he searches for another. Silly pup :)

  27. I can SOOOOO relate!! We cannot give our dog anything that can easily be destroyed because it ends up all over our house or back yard. Where would we be without them though??

  28. Haha hilarious. Dogs have so much potential to be lovable and so annoying at the same time. My dog likes to escape at least 4 times a week and give my hubby a run for his money. I'm convinced he just knows my husband needs exercise:)

  30. Ok, so I know how this feels. We couldn't figure out why our yellow lab Libby stunk. Today my hubs discovered she apparently didn't make friends with a Red Robin and rolled all in it. She smells like crap. Oh, how I wish we were the Clampits because I would totally take her ass down to the crick and give her a bath.

  31. Umm...I have just one question....when are our dogs going to meet? They are twins. Not because they're both adorable labs, but because my Lola does the exact same thing! She loves collecting treasures! It just breaks her little heart when I have to throw them away. Oh, and I also thought you were describing my backyard (i.e. the junkyard). I have no idea where they find half of the stuff back there that has now replaced our lawn!

  32. haha I love it! Our sweet dogs can accumulate quite a mess- my favorite is tripping over their toys! :)

  33. Don't even worry that the main thing I picked out of this post was the orange juice container.... all I want is OJ now!
We have friends who have a dog that have brought home a freakin' COW'S leg before. Nasty!

  34. Sherman is too CUTE! Like, I can't even describe how adorable he is.

  35. So, maybe you could make Sherman's MIDDLE name January. If he doesn't have one already - as all of my pets do. Hahaha.

  36. I hope it was an empty bottle of whiskey? My friend used to get his dog drunk (i know mean!) and I'm not going anywhere with this story, that was just a statement. I LOVE SHERMAN.

  38. Love it! I'm a fellow lab momma here too. My lab loves plastic bottles and empty cardboard boxes. You just have to ask her where her birdie is and she'll surprise you with something.

I found you through Taking notes coast to coast. I blog over at cupatcaffeine.blogspot.com
    Looking forward to reading more!

  42. This is just what our Tilly does, her obsession is sticks, twigs, logs, bits of fence...anything woody that she finds gets dragged to the middle of the lawn and destroyed....AH the joy of dogs :o) xx
