an engineer’s fire pit

A washer drum.
Really. A drum from a washing machine.

This is what it's like being married to an engineer.
Yep, an engineer. Nope, not a chef. Just an engineer who enjoys cooking in his spare time. Who knew those even existed?

Anyways, back to being married to an engineer. We never get to buy anything new, fun or pretty. Everything we own has been extracted from something else that we own. I'm exaggerating a little bit, but still.

Husband loves taking things apart. He also loves putting things together, but typically he never gets to that because he is on to the next project of taking something else apart.

I have to admit though, I am pretty excited to start this puppy up again soon.
These cool, crisp nights we’ve been having are perfect for a romantic night by the washer drum.

P.S. Husband also cuts his own hair in the front lawn while sitting on a bucket.
Our neighbors adore us.

  1. This is awesome! Just be thankful your husband is handy and doesn't pretend that he is. I wince every time I hear a power tool being used in the basement... swearing/yelling/banging ALWAYS follows.

  4. So. wait. it's not the whole cutting your hair in the front lawn that threw me, it's the whole he did it by himself part.. whoa.

and just so you know. just so you know because you need to.. I can hardly do laundry how he managed to come up with a fire pit out of that contraption is beyond me. clearly i'm not an engieneer or a housekeeper. I'm a housefailure. new word.

  6. Haha, that's pretty amazing though. I certainly could not create a fire pit from well.. anything.

Also, I wanted to let you know I signed up for an online class with AltSummit for a DSLR 101 class next Tuesday. I remembered that you have to take a class, so I thought you might want to know :) It's only $15 too! Here's the link if you want to check it out: http://worldfunction.com/events/dslr-101-2/

    Have a good weekend!

  7. AHHH!!! I can so relate to this post it is crazy-coincidental! My husband is also an engineer and he is making a fire pit THIS WEEKEND!!! He's also building us a swingset/playfort!! very fun, very busy weekend. I'll have to tell him about the washer drum! He is going to bury ours and surround it with brick. I'm terrified of fire and grew up in a household where we had to call an electrician to change a lightbulb so this is all foreign to me...
